Governor Wavinya calls in backup rescue as floods ravage Syokimau

Machakos Governor, Wavinya Ndeti has called in emergency disaster response backup following heavy flooding in parts of Kinanie and Syokimau in Mavoko Sub County.

The county boss has also advised dozens of families caught up in the affected areas to relocate even as the county emergency operation teams went on the overdrive to rescue families whose houses were submerged in flood waters following a heavy downpour Saturday night.

Wavinya, who dispatched her Roads, Public Works and Housing minister, Rita Ndunge alongside the county chief of staff, Lawrence Ngovi said her government will provide food, beddings and other basic commodities to the affected families at Kinanie primary school which has been earmarked for hosting those displaced.

Dozens of residents in parts of Kinanie and Syokimau 360 estates have suffered heavy losses after household property destroyed after their flood waters swept into their houses.

Speaking separately, Athiriver DCC Patrick Mwangi urged residents of the affected places to heed to evacuation offer from the Government to avert further disasters.
