The political future of Kericho Governor Eric Mutai is set to be determined by Senators this week as his trial gets underway.
Mutai will face the Senate plenary during a special session this morning as the impeachment hearing kicks off for two days despite a court order.
The senators will reconvene at 9:00 a.m. for a closed-door pre-hearing meeting one hour before the session begins.
Both parties will give opening statements before evidence is tabled by the county assembly and the defense cross-examines. The Monday sitting will conclude at 7.30 pm.
The governor will have most of Tuesday to defend himself and give evidence to counter the charges from 9.00 am to 4.30 pm before closing statements are issued from 4.30pm to 6.30 pm.
This will be followed by two hours of debate on the motion from 6.30 to 8.30 pm before voting.
Mutai faces multiple allegations, including gross violation of the Constitution, misappropriation of public funds, illegal appointments, and abuse of office levelled against him by the county assembly.
Other accusations are bullying, incitement, vilification and indecent sexual conduct.
