Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku is on the spot over allegedly engaging in bipartisan campaigns of the Keekonyokie trust land officials elections slated for next week, 24th.
Ole Lenku on Wednesday attended a campaign rally allied to one faction seeking to be elected terming the other faction as ‘thugs’ a matter that has elicited sharp reactions from locals.
The Governor outrightly declared Moses Parantai led team as his preferred leadership terming the other faction led by Moses Monik Kusero as self centered cartels.
Agitated community members have since condemned the governor over his remarks saying it has created tension, division and confusion and casted doubt over the transparency of the elections.
The presence of Kajiado County Executive Committee member Hamilton Parseina in the campaign has also been questioned owing that he is one of the key figures mandated to oversee the election along officers from the national government.
The High Court ordered elections of the Trust officials following an 11 years protracted leadership wrangles on management and members allocation of the prime multi-billion 2,800 acre piece of land situated in Kibiko Ngong.
Monik team now says Lenku interference is likely reduce the election into a sham denying genuine registered members who will vote justice.
Instead, the team wants the political class to keep off the process and allow registered members to decide who will spearhead the land subdivision process.
Contested members register; alleged threats, bribery, administration and political interference are some of the red flags raised.
Conducting “Mlolongo” form of elections instead of the secret ballot is also among key setbacks that have been cited by members.
The fierce battle of the leadership mantle has been occasioned by members consent to have the communal land subdivided to individual title deeds after elections.
