Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has committed to clear hospital bills for those injured during the Anti-Finance Bill protests in Kakamega County.

Barasa who condoled with the families of those who lost their loved ones said he would meet the funeral expenses.

Speaking when he visited two young adults aged 22 and 19, admitted at the Kakamega hospital, the governor condemned the use of excessive force by police, particularly the use of live bullets on demonstrators on the peaceful protestors.

The two will be discharged on Friday. Additionally, the county will cover the funeral expenses for Caroline Ashirambo, a vegetable vendor from Ikolomani, and Richard Ouko from Kisumu County who died during the demonstrations.

Expressing his condolences to the affected families, Barasa revealed that the county government suffered significant losses, including 18 vehicles destroyed and county offices partly damaged.

He urged the Gen Z generation to engage in peaceful protests, warning that provoking the police and hooligans taking advantage of the situation to loot businesses could lead to further violence and destruction.
