The Global Compact Network Kenya has announced its 2024 Country SDG Pioneers, recognizing Yvonne Kirigo, Strategy and Innovation Manager from MP Shah Hospital, and Kevin Getobai, Farm Project Manager from Ololo Farm.
The two have been honored for their exceptional commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and for inspiring others to further the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Selected from a competitive pool of over 27 nominations, Ms Kirigo and Mr Getobai stood out in their respective categories of Large National and Multinational, and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Ms Kirigo has been celebrated for her impactful green leadership at MP Shah Hospital. As a Go Green Champion, she has spearheaded initiatives that incorporate the Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact and the SDGs through innovative e-waste collection, energy efficiency advocacy, and the promotion of renewable energy solutions.
Mr Getobai’s recognition stems from his innovative approach to integrating regenerative and sustainable agriculture principles at Ololo Farm by implementing insects-based composting, utilizing Black Soldier Flies to expedite the composting process from six months to 14 days, has been transformative.
The initiative has enabled Ololo Farm to save up to 47.5 tonnes of CO2 equivalence, divert 25 tonnes of food waste from landfills, and produce 2.5 tonnes of protein from waste annually.
