The sporting fraternity has been thrown into mourning following the demise of former rally driver and retired Senior Superintendent of Police John Biketi.
Biketi served in the police force for more than three decades and competed in various sporting disciplines including rally, athletics and darts.
After winning the inter provincial driving competition in 1964, Biketi pioneered the Kenya Police Drivers Rally club five years later.
His crew won the Pepsi Cola Rally that was held in Kampala, Uganda that year, setting a record of the first time in history for African drivers to win that rally.
He also participated in the East African Safari Rally between 1969-1974 alongside Peter Wekhomba and against other rally drivers including Joginder Singh and Shekhar Mehta.
He also competed in the mile between 1959 and 1961 and was one of the founder members of the Kenya Police Darts Club under the umbrella of Police Sports Council.
Biketi fell ill on 13th May 2024 and after a battle with illness he succumbed on 21st June 2024.
