Former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was allegedly abducted by unknown persons on Saturday night.
Speaking to KBC over the phone Njenga’s lawyer Ndegwa Njiru said the incident occurred at 11.10 pm in Ndederu area in Kiambu County.
Ndegwa said those who took him away along with his aide Felix Lakishe did not introduce themselves.
The family, however, claims they got wind he was being detained at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations headquarters.
Njenga’s arrest comes at a time when he is scheduled to appear before a Makadara Court on Monday for mentioning of a case in which he is accused of being in possession of firearms contrary to the law.
He had earlier been arrested on July 19, 2023 in the company of his brother and aide.
The prosecution said they were found in possession of 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus, and three jembe sticks.
He appeared before the Makadara Law Courts on July 25 and was released on a Ksh.100, 000 cash bail and the case was set for mentioning tomorrow 18th of September 2023.
The family is now calling on the relevant authorities to produce him.
