President William Ruto will on Friday chair the Committee on National Disaster Response on the ongoing flooding across the country.

This follows after the Head of State chaired an emergency session of all the key stakeholders today at State House in wake of the nationwide floods which have claimed lives and displaced thousands of families.

The meeting resolved to establish a Multi-Agency Emergency Response Centre domiciled in the Ministry of Interior.

The President also ordered the National Youth Service (NYS) to provide shelter to Kenyans directly affected by the floods.

“All internally displaced persons will be facilitated to find alternative settlement,” a statement from State House read.

The affected households will be provided with food and non-food items.

“The outlook for the next week indicates that the country will receive above normal rainfall across the country,” the statement further read.

Members of the public have been urged to exercise caution while traveling and those living in the low lands to move to higher grounds.
