The Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK), in collaboration with the Magical Kenya Open Local Organising Committee, announced that five additional slots were awarded to local professional golfers for the upcoming Magical Kenya Open.
This decision was reached through a joint communique and marked a significant step in strengthening local representation in the prestigious tournament.
To determine the five professionals to take up the additional slots, an 18-hole qualifying event was held at Windsor Golf & Country Club on February 17, 2025.
The highly competitive event saw 30 Kenyan professional golfers battle for a chance to participate in the Magical Kenya Open.
Mutahi Kibugu emerged as the top qualifier, finishing the round with an impressive score of -2. He was closely followed by Vice Chairman of PGK, Alfred Nandwa, and Erick Ooko, who both tied for second place with scores of -1.
The fourth-place position was contested between Daniel Nduva, Mike Kisia, and Simon Njogu, who all finished at +2.
A sudden-death playoff on holes 1 and 18 determined the final two slots, with Daniel Nduva and Simon Njogu securing their places after playing par, while Mike Kisia recorded a bogey.
They will now commence practice sessions at Muthaiga Golf Club in preparation for the Magical Kenya Open, scheduled to take place from February 20-23, 2025.
The Magical Kenya Open continues to be a premier event on the DP World Tour, providing Kenyan professionals with a valuable opportunity to compete at the highest level and showcase their talent on an international stage.
The inclusion of additional local players is a testament to the commitment of the organising committee and PGK in developing and promoting professional golf in Kenya.
