The First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto has rallied her fellow First Ladies in Africa to fast-track gender equity in their countries to ensure that girls and women are given equal opportunities for education and empowerment.

The First Lady was speaking in New York during the closure of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) #WeAreEqual meeting on the sidelines of UNGA 79.

The campaign was launched in 2023 and brought together First Ladies from Africa around 4 common themes; Health, Education, Women’s Economic Empowerment, and Gender-Based Violence.

Mama Rachel Ruto was recognised by OAFLAD for her efforts towards gender equity, centred on the economic empowerment of women through table banking and her leading role in championing the We are Equal campaign.

The 2024-2025 phase will see accelerated efforts organised around working groups that will be composed of partners, OAFLAD members, and Member States.
