First Lady: Family planning, critical in promoting well-being of individuals, societies

First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto has called on governments to be deliberate and put measures in place that take advantage of the demographic dividend of the young population.

She said, to realise the demographic dividend, strategic policies and investments to harness the productive capacity of the working-age population must be put in place.

She spoke when she attended the 4th high-level forum of women leaders in Bujumbura, Burundi on Monday 9th October 2023.

The Forum hosted by Angeline Ndayishimiye, the First Lady of Burundi, was attended by Janet Kagame, First Lady of Rwanda, Mariam Mwinyi, First Lady of Zanzibar and a dozen more women leaders from across the continent who represented various organizations.

During the Forum dubbed; Contribution of Family Planning to Achieving Good Nutritional Status and Demographic Dividend, First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto said family planning was critical in promoting the well-being of individuals, families, and societies by improving health outcomes, reducing poverty, empowering women, and contributing to sustainable development.

It enables men and women to make informed choices about their reproductive health, leading to healthier and more prosperous communities.
