First Lady advocates for positive parenting

The First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto has officially launched the Official Launch of the National Policy on Family Promotion and Protection, an initiative of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection. 

The policy was launched during the International Day of Families celebration at KICC Wednesday, with the theme; “climate change and impact on family’s well-being.”

Mama Rachel Ruto called on parents in the nation to adopt positive parenting that enables Positive parenting enables the full development of a child by using a nurturing, empowering and non-violent approach.

She further asked families to take an active role in the promotion, protection, and conservation of the environment, with emphasis on reducing the impact of human activities such as deforestation and industrialisation, that have greatly contributed to the climate changes we are experiencing today.

Speaking during the event, Florence Bore, the Cabinet Secretary, ministry of Labour and Social Protection praised the policy launched Wednesday as one with key strategic interventions that will help the country achieve the goal of stable and cohesive families.

The interventions focus on among others; Marriage; Parenting; Religion and Culture; Family education; Family Health; Economy; Family Safety and Security; Vulnerability and Social Protection; Media and Technology and; the Environment

Charles Kanjama, The chairman, of Kenya Christian Professional Forum noted that the gains and key reforms outlined in the National Policy on Family Promotion are further supported by the Family Protection Bill 2023 that was tabled in parliament by Peter Kaluma.
