President William Ruto’s personal assistant Farouk Kibet has cautioned leaders against reverting to ethnic-based politics.

Kibet reiterated the need for all leaders to promote cohesion and unity of all Kenyans for the betterment of the country. He said leaders should desist from sowing seeds of discord among Kenyans for their selfish political interests.

We will work with Kenyans who mean well and who have good intentions. Our goal is to bring people together not to divide them,” he said

“Let’s pray for those who perpetrate ethnicity in their thoughts to move away from it. We are all Kenyans first. Our biggest problem is ethnicity and we should do everything to overcome it,” added Kibet who was in Kangundo, Machakos County for a church service.

Kibet who was in company of more than 15 MPs led by Majority leader in the National Assembly Kimani Ichung’wah said he was pleased that a section of leaders is speaking against balkanization.

“I am happy that MPs have been discussing this issue of negative ethnicity openly. This is the best way to end it. Kenyans must live together as one,” he said

While lauding Kibet, Ichungw’ah said Kenya cannot take the ethnic path given its history in the country. He argued that some leaders were hell-bent on taking the country back to the old days of tribalism.

“We will not allow anyone to engage in the politics of hate and division. We must work together to unite and change our country,” said Majority Leader

He said that the country faces challenges that can only be reformed by leadership that is inclusive and transformative.

These sentiments were echoed by the Majority Chief Whip and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro.

“Leaders must refrain from selfish talk and should focus on working for the people and respect the interests of all,” he said
