The agriculture ministry is calling on farmers across the country to ensure they buy subsidized fertilizer from the National Cereals and Produce Board depots.
Speaking in Narumoru during the Mount Kenya Tour with the president, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe assured farmers of availability of affordable fertilizer at NCPB Stores which farmers need to take advantage of as planting season approaches.
Kagwe noted that subsidized fertilizer programme is part of the government’s efforts to ensure farmers access quality inputs at affordable prices.
With rising demand of the commodity, Kagwe said the ministry is keen on replenishing stocks in different parts of the country. The subsidy programme aims to boost crop productivity, enhance food security and support smallholder farmers in reducing production costs.
At Naromoru Market, the leaders engaged with traders, emphasizing the importance of structured markets in stabilizing produce prices, minimizing post-harvest losses, and improving linkages between farmers and buyers.
