3000msc World record holder Beatrice Chepkoech shook off stiff competition to emerge the winner in 5000m in day 2 of the All African games trials at Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday.
Chepkoech who jetted back yesterday from the World Athletics indoor championships in Scotland, led from gun to tape clocking 15:29.69,ahead of Mary Mananu and Sandra Felis Chebet who finished 2nd 3rd respectively.
KDF’s little known Dismas Korir won the 10,000m in 28:36.77, followed by Francis Abong in 28:38.96 while Evans Keitany finished 3rd.
Brian Komen stormed to victory in 1500m men in 3:38.36, ahead of Kenya Police’s Abel Kipsang’ and Kamar Etiang.
The women’s race was won by Mary Nyanza who clocked 4:27.82 followed by Lydia Jeruto and Winny Chebet in 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
Athletics events at the All African games in Accra Ghana are scheduled to be held between 18th and 23rd of this month.
