Preparations for the Mashujaa Day celebrations have reached their final phase, with performers completing their rehearsals this week. This year’s event promises a diverse and vibrant line-up of acts set to take the stage at Kwale Stadium.
The performances will showcase talent sourced from across the country through the Permanent Presidential Music Commission. Featured bands include Deep Sea International Band, Ikulu Band, Utawala Band, Presidential Escort Unit Dance Band, Stellar Mengele and the Yellow Wagoners Band, 002 Studio Artistes, and Presto Band.
Several choirs will also bring their voices to the celebration, including Mwakigwena Previous Choir and Kwale County Choir. Additionally, traditional cultural groups will offer guests a taste of Kenya’s heritage.
These include the Namelock Women Group, Kiserian Manyatta Cultural Group, Kidumbaki Cultural Group, Jamii Action Centre, and Wacha Chuki Cultural Group.
Dance and acrobatic performances will be provided by Sports For All and Sisi kwa Sisi, with comedy skits from PoplaProd Media.
Some solo artistes will also be featured including: celebrated saxophonist Chris Bitok, legendary musician Mzee Ngala, actress/singer Viquee Ofula, contemporary hip-hop artiste Angachi, Musician Wafalme Classic, Musician Pastor Gabriel Mwamuye, and other creatives such as Binti Abdallah, Bakari Kassim, and Mohamed Zimbu.
The event will also feature the much-anticipated parade by Kenya’s security departments, including the Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF).
During the KDF dress rehearsals earlier this week, Governor Achani expressed her excitement, noting that it would be the first time Kwale County will host the national celebrations since Kenya gained independence.
She assured Kenyans that the county is fully prepared to host this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, scheduled for Sunday at the newly completed Kwale Stadium.
“Ningependa kuwakaribisha wakenya wote katika sherehe za mashujaa ambazo zitaandaliwa katika kiwanja hichi cha Kwale Stadium… nataka tu niwakaribishe niseme Kwale tuko tayari kwa mashujaa.” (I would like to welcome all Kenyans to the Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Kwale Stadium and assure you that Kwale is ready for Mashujaa Celebrations).
Also present at the dress rehearsals was Dr. Raymond Omollo, the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration.
PS Omollo commended the National Celebrations Steering Committee for their efforts, especially in ensuring the rapid completion of Kwale Stadium in preparation for the celebrations.
“Kwale is ready to host the celebrations and the team has worked very hard to ensure that this becomes a reality.
“When we began, construction of the stadium had just begun and if you look around now it is completely finished. The stadium has a capacity of over 10,000 people.”
