Former Murang’a Governor Mwangi wa Iria and two others have been charged Tuesday in court for irregularly awarding tenders and other procurement irregularities totaling Ksh140 million.

Wa Iria presented himself at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Police Station Tuesday after the High Court lifted conservatory orders stopping the arrest and prosecution of former Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria, his wife and six other graft suspects.

In a ruling Monday afternoon, Justice Nixon Sifuna ordered Wa Iria and the co-accused to immediately proceed to EACC Police Station at Integrity Centre for fingerprint taking and statement recording ahead of arraignment on Tuesday.

Judge Sifuna has ordered their arrest in the event of non-compliance.

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru on April 17 obtained conservatory orders stopping the arrest of the former governor, his wife Jane Waigwe Kimani and brother-in-law Solomon Mutura Kimani.
