EPRA keeps pump prices unchanged

Motorists are set to continue paying the same after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) retained the same rates for the next 1 month.

Super petrol will continue retailing at Ksh 188.84, diesel at Ksh 171.60 and kerosene will now retail at Ksh 161.75 in Nairobi starting midnight.

EPRA says that the prices are inclusive of the 16pc Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.

This comes even a Court of Appeal ruled that the Finance Act 2023 is unconstitutional due to flawed public participation.

The decision meant implementation of VAT from 8pc to 16pc from the date of the ruling on July 31, 2024 would be deemed illegal.
