The National Cohesion and Integration Commission’s (NCIC) incoming Commission Secretary/CEO Dr. Daniel Mutegi Giti was sworn in this afternoon at the Supreme Court in a colorful ceremony led by the Chief Justice Martha Koome.
Present during the swearing-in ceremony were NCIC Vice Chair Commissioner Wambui Nyutu and Commissioners Dr Danvas Makori, Dorcas Kedogo and Eng. Philip Okundi.
The CJ called on NCIC to remain vigilant in discharging its mandate and urged the incoming CEO to steer peace and cohesion in Kenya ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Your assumption of office comes at a particularly significant moment in our national journey, a period that marks the beginning of the road towards the 2027 General Election. This period is often characterised by heightened political activity and charged public discourse. It is therefore imperative that the NCIC remains vigilant, proactive, and robust in promoting peace, cohesion, and national unity as political temperatures begin to rise.” Koome said
As per the National Cohesion and Integration Act of 2008 (NCI Act), the CEO of the Commission will serve for a 3-year term which is subject to renewal, and he is taking over from Harrison Kariuki, who has been in an acting capacity for the past two years.
