DPP orders arrest of man captured in viral video harassing Port Victoria Hospital staff

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ordered the arrest of a man who was captured on a video harassing Port Victoria hospital staff alongside Vanessa Ogema.

In a statement, the DPP directed that the man be identified and charged. The video which circulated on social media platforms on January 1, showed Ogema and the unidentified man verbally abusing staff at the hospital.

“The ODPP has directed that, a second male suspect who was in the company of the accused person and was captured in the video be identified, apprehended and charged alongside the accused person already charged in court,” read the statement.

Ogema was arraigned in court on January 8 and pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, causing actual bodily harm, creating disturbance, malicious damage to property and threat of injury to persons employed in the public service.

She was released on a bond of ksh200,000 with a surety of a similar amount.

The case is set for a mention on January 17.
