The politics of Mt. Kenya took center stage on Thursday during the burial of Raphael Munyua, who until his death was the Deputy Governor of Lamu County.
While Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua steered clear of politics instead called for unity of purpose, central Kenya leaders present urged him not to abandon his quest for unity and development of the larger Mt. Kenya region.
They assured him of their unwavering support despite constant criticism from various quarters saying he has been bold enough in advancing the interest of the mountain despite constant attacks.
They have called for the unity of all communities in advancing the nation’s development agenda.
The leaders emphasized that despite the ongoing political challenges, it is crucial for leaders and citizens alike to prioritize the collective good.
During his address, DP Gachagua highlighted the significance of maintaining peace in Lamu, a region endowed with rich resources, including vast opportunities in the blue economy.
He called on the diverse communities within the county to come together, noting that it’s only through collective action that Lamu reach its full potential.
Addressing concerns raised by some local leaders regarding the use of sniffer dogs at roadblocks, the Deputy President reassured the public of their vital role in enhancing security.
