Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli has finally presented himself before Milimani Law Courts.

The police boss, who was found guilty of contempt of court was accompanied by Attorney General Dorcas Odour in a bid quash his jail sentence handed by Justice Lawrence Mugambi.

The court had set a seven-day deadline for the former Acting Deputy IG to appear before the court which lapses today (Friday).

Masengeli through his lawyers Cecil Miller and Steve Ogola on Thursday made attempts to appear before Justice Lawrence Mugambi but hit a snag when duty Judge, Justice Chacha Mwita informed them that Judge Mugambi was part of a three-Judge bench handling another matter.

Judge Mwita ordered the file be placed before Justice Mugambi today so that he can order when and what times parties should appear before him.

The latest move came as Civil society organizations in Mombasa called for the application of citizens’ arrests in the case of outgoing Acting IG Gilbert Masengeli.
