The story of celebrated freedom-fighter, Dedan Kimathi, is set to be revamped in a new musical production by the Woodcreek School running from October 24 to November 3 this year.
The production titled “Dedan Kimathi: A Legacy of Rebellion” will be the first-ever presentation of Dedan Kimathi’s story as a musical performance and will incorporate expressive music, dance, chants, hymns, and laments.
The musical will be a re-telling of Dedan Kimathi’s legacy and his achievements as one of Kenya’s most prominent freedom fighters.
It promises to present a powerful narrative that explores the complexities of resistance, sacrifice, and the quest for justice.
The musical, written by Andrew Tumbo and directed by Lewis Kavol Xavier, will focus on the important moments in Kimathi’s life including his leadership of the Mau Mau Movement and the personal and political battles that defined his legacy.
It will also incorporate the stories of other prominent historical figures and freedom fighters such as General China, Musa Mwariama, Muthoni Kirima, and Mukami Kimathi.
