As the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams enter their fourth week, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos has outlined a new approach to curbing exam malpractice.

Speaking after supervising the distribution of KCSE examination papers at Langata Sub-County Headquarters in Nairobi, the CS said this year’s exam regulations will focus on individualized accountability rather than school-wide penalties.

Migos warned that any student found engaging in malpractice will be held personally responsible.

“This year, if there is any malpractice, we are not going to condemn the whole school or center it is going to be individualized. If you open an examination paper and take a photo we will deal with you as an individual,” said Migos

“If a student brings a phone into the exam room and shares the paper, we will know it is that student, as each paper is serialized for each individual. That student will face the consequences when the results are released,” he added.

Migos further appealed to the Judiciary to ensure swift prosecution of those involved in exam malpractices.

The 2024 KCSE candidates will continue their examinations today, beginning with Mathematics Paper 2 at 8:00 a.m., followed by Kiswahili Fasihi at 11:00 a.m.
