Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has said the ongoing expansion and modernization of the Kenya Defence Forces systems and posture shall be critical in detecting and countering the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

He said the al-shabaab militia has been degraded and their only option currently is erecting IEDs along the roads in the coastal region saying there’s a comprehensive plan to construct and upgrade critical security roads in the region.

The CS made the disclosure Thursday at Parliament Buildings when he appeared before the Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations chaired by Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech.

He affirmed that despite the setbacks, KDF remains unwavered in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism and discharging their Constitutional mandate of defending and protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Kenya.

He pointed out that the military in collaboration with other multi-agency teams deployed under Operation Amani Boni have made significant strides in pacifying the region and neutralizing numerous terror activities and are keen to suppress all terror-related attacks.

Duale maintained that as an anchor State in the region, KDF shall continue to support all efforts aimed at enhancing peace, security and stability in the region.

During the session, the CS was accompanied by the Chief of Strategic Plans and Policy from the Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Edward Rugendo.
