The High Court has declared the appointment of Anthony Mwaura as the Chair of the Board of Directors at Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) illegal.

Justice Francis Gikonyo ruled that Mwaura’s appointment last year in November was unconstitutional since he was facing corruption and economic charges.

A Nakuru Surgeon Dr Magare Gikenyi had moved to court to challenge the appointment.

Mwaura who is also the UDA National Elections Board was implicated in the Ksh 357 million corruption scandal at Nairobi County government during former governor Mike Sonko’s tenure.

He was however acquitted by a Magistrate Court sitting at the Milimani Law Court for lack of evidence.

Magistrate Eunice Nyuttu said the Public Prosecutor had failed to prove fraud alleged at the City Hall under Sonko’s reign.
