Government unveils initiative to empower women in Nakuru

The National Government has unveiled an initiative aimed at accelerating the realization of gender equality and women empowerment in Nakuru County.

Speaking when he launched the Women in Leadership Technical Group, the Deputy Director, in the State Department of Gender, Paul Kilonzo stated that the initiative aims to explore ways of enhancing women’s participation in politics and decision making process at social, political and economic forums.

He said the government was collaborating with county governments, development partners, community based organizations and religious institutions in the quest to rally more action from all stakeholders on the commitments to gender equality and women empowerment.

Women’s Empowerment Link Network Coordinator Mercy Mukeni called for the involvement and empowerment of women in decision-making on climate change.

She noted that women are mostly affected through displacements and loss of livelihoods due to environmental degradation.
