Two of his accomplices managed to escape

Detectives based at Pangani Police station have shot dead a thug who had attacked a middle-aged woman, as he fled from the crime scene.

This is after he attacked a middle-aged woman along Muratina road in Mathare, Nairobi.

After robbing her of mobile phone and other valuables, the three walked away casually towards Mlango Kubwa, as members of the public who had witnessed the daring attack raised alarm.

Luckily, sleuths who were on patrol responded swiftly, as the machete-wielding thugs escaped towards Mathare’s Redeemed Gospel Church.

The DCI added that one of the thugs turned back and attacked the corporal leading the chase with a machete before the officer opened fire killing him on the spot.

Two of his accomplices managed to escape. Police managed to recover three Machetes, daggers, two swords and other crude weapons.

The body of the deceased was moved to City Mortuary pending identification and postmortem.

The criminal had been part of a three-man gang that has been terrorising residents in the larger Mathare, Pangani and Huruma areas
