Women in Mandera have unimously agreed to eliminate Gender Based Violence related cases in the county.
The women led by Maendeleo ya Wanawake representative Fatuma Abdi said they will fight for the rights of women and girls in the county.
Girls are always the victims of incest, outnumbering boys in Mandera county.
In a meeting that brought together women leaders led by Mandera CEC Genders and social services, Shamsa Noor said women must be empowered to enable them play a significant role in fending for their families.
CEC Shamsa urged the local women leaders to report cases of genders-based violence in order to eradicate the vice in Mandera.
“Let us empower our girls. Young girls in Mandera face the triple threat of SGBV, teenage pregnancies and risk of early marriage,” she said
Gender based violence is increasing in most regions in Mandera county with two women killed by their husbands just recently.
The deceased women join the growing list of grim statistics of domestic violence that has affected many families.
