COSAFA Cup: Emerging Stars upbeat ahead of opener against Zambia

The national Under 23 soccer team,Emerging Stars, will begin their quest for the COSAFA Cup  when they play Zambia in their opening group B match today evening in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

The match is set to be played at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium,kicking off at 7pm East Africa Time.

Kenya under the tutelage of head coach Kennedy Odhiambo is primed for success in the 12 team tournament.

Kenya’s 23 man squad boasts of youth and experience with a big number of players plying their trade in Kenyan top flight.

Former U18 internationals and enterprising prodigies Aldrine Kibet, Elly Owande, Ibrahim Wanzala and Amos Wanjala are also part of the team.

After the Zambia encounter Kenya will face Comoros on Sunday before wrapping up their group matches against Zimbabwe Tuesday next week.

Three top placed teams will automaticall qualify for the semi final and will be joined by two best third finishers.

The 23rd edition of the  COSAFA Cup which is tailored for Southern Africa teams has attracted a total of 12 teams with Kenya and Angola being invited sides.
