The Kenya National Police DT SACCO participated in global celebrations for the girl child in Gilgil, hosting over 1,000 international delegates from 45 countries at Utumishi Primary and Secondary schools.
The delegation came to witness the positive impact the Police DT SACCO has had on the community, culminating in a commemorative tree-planting exercise led by Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya and Police SACCO Chair David Mategwa.
Demonstrating its commitment to ensuring that girls are visible and receive adequate resources to thrive, the Kenya Police DT SACCO showcased nine newly constructed classrooms for students at Utumishi Girls.
Wycliffe Oparanya praised the DT SACCO for its contributions to girls’ education and environmental sustainability. He highlighted the crucial role of cooperatives in driving economic development and addressing pressing social and environmental challenges.
“The DT SACCO’s dedication to empowering girls and promoting sustainability serves as a shining example of the positive impact that cooperatives can have on our communities,” said CS Oparanya.

The congregation gathered in Naivasha for a week-long cooperative conference, which concluded with the planting of 15,000 trees at Utumishi Schools to commemorate the signing of the ACCOSCA climate action plan initiative.
In addition to local initiatives, the DT SACCO has been actively involved in global collaborations to strengthen the cooperative movement. As a key member of the African Cooperative Savings and Credit Association (ACCOSCA), the SACCO recently hosted a delegation of cooperative leaders from the African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC) to foster knowledge exchange and strategic partnerships.
During their visit, the AACUC delegation received a comprehensive tour of the SACCO’s operations, learning about its innovative service delivery models, commitment to financial inclusion, and community development initiatives. The delegation was particularly impressed by the SACCO’s efforts to leverage technology to enhance member experience and improve operational efficiency.
“We are honoured to welcome our colleagues from the AACUC to Kenya and to share our experiences as a leading cooperative in the region,” said Solomon Atsiaya, CEO of the DT SACCO.
“This visit underscores the importance of global collaboration and knowledge sharing within the cooperative movement. By working together, we can create a more sustainable and equitable future for all.” he added
The DT SACCO’s commitment to sustainability and community development exemplifies its leadership in the cooperative movement and its capacity to create a positive impact both locally and globally.
