To aid in their preparations, each team taking part in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup preliminary stages would receive USD $50,000.
The first leg matches of the First Preliminary Round are set for August 16–18, 2024, with the return legs falling on August 23–25 of the same year.
Group stage spots are up for grabs in September’s Second Preliminary Round. For the first time, CAF is providing clubs at this round of the competition with financial support.
In the past, Clubs had to advance through the Group Stages in order to get a portion of the total prize money.
The prize money awarded to the winners of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League has increased to USD 4,000,000 from USD 2.5,000,000 in 2022.
The noteworthy action taken by CAF allays the clubs’ long standing worries about the increased travel and logistical expenses related to playing club continental football.
The current prize money structure for both contests’ subsequent stages is enhanced by this financial benefit for preliminary round players.
This action is anticipated to improve the standard of club football in Africa by encouraging more clubs to compete in continental events.
