Chris Ziemer and Margot Garabedian emerged winners of the Africa Triathlon Cup in the men’s and women’s categories respectively as the championship concluded at Bofa Beach,Kilifi.
The competition attracted over 300 participants drawn from host country Kenya,Uganda,Germany,Australia and Cambodia.
Germany’s Chris Ziemer claimed victory in 58 minutes and 40 seconds while Australia’s siblings Noah Kuz and Samuel Kuz wound up in second and third positions respectively .
Kenya’s top ranked finisher was Joseph Okal who was placed 6th…Margot Garabedian won the women’s contest in 1 hours and zero point 11 seconds .
Noura Nouri of Morroco and Aisha Nasserr of Kenya were ranked in second and third positions respectively.
The triathlon competition saw competitors taking part in 750m swim, a 20km bike ride and a 5km run.
Mombasa based triathlon coach Alphan Mwanyika said the coastal weather was conducive for the sports calling for support to the individual athletes who might be struggling to keep up in the sport.
‘’We have potential here at the coast since we already have a training facility in form of the ocean.We applaud the government for supporting the sport however we need support to athletes who might be struggling in meeting coats for the equipment like bikes which are costly’’,Mwanyika remarked.
