Chinese envoy delivers support to needy families in Taita Taveta

This week, the Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Zhou Pingjian conducted a development tour of Taita Taveta County in the Coast region.

Among other things, the Ambassador, who was in the company of area Governor Andrew Mwadime distributed essential food items to 1200 families in need and offered financial support to underprivileged secondary school-going children for further education.

Amb. Zhou visited St. John’s Secondary School, Mghange, where he noted, “It was a privilege to contribute to the future of bright students. Education unlocks endless possibilities,”

During a meeting with Beijing’s top diplomat in Nairobi, Governor Mwadime thanked the Chinese government for supporting needy learners in the area. He said; “exchanges and cooperation at the sub-national level can play a significant part in joining hands to build an even closer China-Kenya community with a shared future in the new era,”

At the same time, one thousand two hundred families living in extreme poverty have benefited from assorted food items distribution in a joint program between the embassy and the county government.

“The donation courtesy of our strategic partnership with the Chinese embassy aims at cushioning farmers who recorded low agricultural productivity as a result of excessive rainfall which led to flash floods destroying crops & sweeping away animals in various parts of the County,” said Gov. Mwadime

He said Amb. Zhou Pingjian’s visit to Taita Taveta is proof of efforts towards strengthening exchanges and cooperation that will build a closer Kenya-China community fundamental in upholding our rights and development interests.
