Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Zhou Pingjian embarked on an extensive development tour of the Nyanza region this week. His visit included stops in Migori, Kisii, and Kisumu counties, where he met with Governors Ochilo Ayacko, Simba Arati, and Anyang Nyong’o.
The ambassador also visited overseas Chinese companies operating in the region and engaged with employees at enterprises funded by China.
During the tour, Ambassador Zhou emphasized that people-to-people exchanges are a cornerstone of bilateral relations and vital for their strengthening. He highlighted the need to enhance efforts to build a China-Kenya community with a shared future. Additionally, he referenced the recently unveiled ten action plans that Beijing will implement over the next three years for the benefit of Africa and its people.
“China stands ready to work with Kenya to implement the outcomes of the 2024 FOCAC Beijing Summit and promote new initiatives in exchanges and cooperation across various fields,” he stated.
He observed that Kenya has become an appealing destination for numerous Chinese investments and expressed confidence that the Kenyan government would continue to improve the investment climate to attract more foreign enterprises, ultimately benefiting the local population.
“We hope Kenya will provide more convenience for Chinese citizens and enterprises and better support their businesses,” he said, amid praise from local leaders and citizens for the positive contributions made by Chinese enterprises in the region. They lauded the People’s Republic of China for extending strong support and assistance.
Before concluding his tour, the diplomat, who is wrapping up his four-year tenure in Nairobi, paid a courtesy visit to the Mausoleum of Kenya’s first Vice President, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
