CGIAR announces inaugural Science Week to promote sustainable food systems

CGIAR has announced its inaugural Science Week that will take place from 1st to 5th July 2024 at the United Nations Campus in Nairobi, Kenya.

The event comes at a time when climate change continues to disrupt global food, land, and water systems and harm lives and livelihoods of farmers and consumers around the world.

CGIAR Science Week will bring together scientists, policymakers, industry experts, and advocates from around the world to address these pressing challenges as the need for sustainable solutions becomes more critical.

CGIAR Executive Managing Director Dr. Ismahane Elouafi stressed that science can reimagine a sustainable and healthy future for people and the planet.

“With science, we can reimagine a sustainable and healthy future for people and the planet,” said Dr.  Elouafi. Adding that: “At the inaugural CGIAR Science Week, we will bring together the people, ideas, and innovations that can make this ambition a reality.”

With stakeholder and partner consultations on CGIAR’s proposed research programs for 2025-2030, the event offers a unique opportunity to shape the scientific response to the world’s most urgent challenges.

There will be other activities including speeches and panel discussions with experts in agriculture, climate science, food security, and policymakers as well as Science Talks and workshops that showcase the best of food, land, and water systems science and innovation.

Similarly there will be an exhibition of game-changing innovations that are improving the lives of producers and consumers around the world and field visits to CGIAR and partner labs and research stations to see science in action.

CGIAR Science Week will feature an impressive lineup of speakers with confirmed participation or partnership with the government of Kenya, African Union, Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), African Development Bank (AfDB).

CGIAR is a global research partnership focused on transforming food, land, and water systems to combat climate change.

With 15 research centers worldwide, CGIAR develops innovative solutions to enhance agricultural productivity and promote sustainability.
