Car and General mulls expansion of its Nakuru local motorcycle assembly to include electric motorbikes even as it strengthen its market share in internal combustion engine.

Speaking during the launch of its latest internal combustion engines motorbike, the TVS 125, C&G Chief Executive Officer David Chesoni said the firm currently sources up to 14 parts used in assembly of the motorbike.

“We are already doing local assembly and even the bikes we have launched today, there are certain 14 parts are manufactured locally. This is one of the best decisions the government ever took because out of that we have been able to create job opportunities with certain partners who make the parts for us,” said Chesoni.
C&G expects the new bikes to further help strengthen its market share in the two wheeler category.

Out of 3.5 million TVS bikes sold worldwide, the firm which is the local dealer of the Indian motorcycle manufacturer say sales in Kenya account for at least 600,000.

The dealer now eyes the introduction of e-bikes from TVS in the future as the market gains traction in Kenya.

Early this year, the firm introduced its electric three wheelers in the Kenyan market.

“The electric mobility space is coming up and there is a conversation with TVS and they are working on several products which will make them available over time. We strongly feel there is room for internal combustion engines to support and cover the market for us and when the right time comes and after we have done and tested the right product in the EV space we will launch one,” added Chesoni.

The TVS 125 boasts extra five gear which helps improve fuel efficiency and additional power and range as well as tubeless tires.
