Bilie Jean King Cup: Kenya to face South Africa and Nigeria in play off

Hosts Kenya, top seeds South Africa, and third seeds Nigeria will be in a three way battle to earn promotion to the Billie Jean King Cup  Europe Africa Group II after they topped their respective pools in the ongoing  Africa Group III tournament  at the Nairobi Club.

Kenya topped Pool B in the Billie Jean King Cup Group III tournament after beating Burundi 2-1 at the Nairobi Club. Kenya also won their pool A matches against Mauritius and Tunisia

Cynthia Cheruto Wanjala defeated Hoziane Kitambala 6-4 6-1 in the opening singles match followed by a 6-4 6-4 victory for Angella Okutoyi against Sada Nahimana.

Burundi got a consolation victory in the doubles after Nahimana and Kitambala defeated Roselida Asumwa and Stacy Yego by 2 sets to 1 of 6-3 5-7 and 10-7.

South Africa topped Group A after defeating Zimbabwe 2 rubbers to 1 in the final pool match.

Third seeds Nigeria joined the three way contest for promotion after a 2-1 win over Botswana in Pool C.

Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa have been drawn in the promotion play off where the teams will face off in a round robin with the winner getting the ultimate promotion to Europe Africa Group II in 2025.

Kenya is set to open the play off encounters against Nigeria.

The championship ends on Saturday at Nairobi Club.
