All set for 2024 Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony on Friday night

The 33rd Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony is scheduled to take place this Friday night near the Seine River in the French capital.

The Olympic ceremony will take place outdoors for the first time.

During the opening ceremony, athletes are anticipated to cruise six kilometers in boats to the Eiffel Tower.

Security has been heightened across the city of Paris, with security closing major roads leading in and out of the city.

A huge security perimeter has been erected along both banks of the Seine, guarded round-the-clock by some of the 45,000 police and paramilitary officers who will be on duty on Friday evening.

Another 10,000 soldiers are set to add to the security blanket along with 22,000 private security guards.

Around 3,000 dancers are set to perform from the banks of the river and nearby monuments, including Notre-Dame cathedral, in a show that will promote diversity, gender equality and French history.

According to the local organizing committee, approximately 300,000 VIPs will grace the opening ceremony.

The Israeli and Palestinian teams will be given extra protection, with the tensions caused by Israel’s offensive in Gaza, where nearly 40,000 people are estimated to have died, already spilling into the Games.

The three cities that will make up the Olympic village are Saint-Denis, Saint Ouen, and L’Île-Saint-Denis.

It will accommodate 14,250 athletes during the Olympic Games, and 8,000 during the Paralympic Games.

After the Games, the Village will become a neighborhood with 2,500 new homes, one student residence, one hotel, a three-hectare landscaped park, about seven hectares of gardens and parks, 120,000 sqm of offices and city services and 3,200 sqm of neighborhood shops.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games were scheduled to be the first time a modern Summer Olympics will have an equal share of male and female athletes competing.

Team Kenya which consist of 81 athletes will be competing in six disciplines namely; Judo, fencing, swimming, rugby sevens men, women volleyball and athletics.

Kenya is represented by a total of 54 athletes; 2 swimmers, 1 each in fencing and Judo as well as 12 each in volleyball and rugby sevens.
