Athletics Kenya (AK) has disassociated itself from the alleged federation’s new  constitution that is being circulated on social media and has advised people to ignore it.

In a press release from AK, the federation said the unscrupulous individuals have proceeded to share the document on different online platforms, hoodwinking unsuspecting athletes, officials, coaches, and other stakeholders.

AK reiterated that it has not altered or published a new constitution, calling the action a hoax and the product of a few self-serving individuals who have falsified the federation’s letterhead and logo in order to further their own ajenda.

“As many who have interacted with the document will attest, it is a poorly drafted ‘constitution’ full of grammatical and spelling errors, in addition to inconsistencies with the legal instruments of the land.
The haphazard way it is written cannot be the result of a public participation in which stakeholders get the chance to input their views as is expected of any constitution-making process. It is the product of a fertile, selfish mind that is hellbent on dragging the sport down a dark abyss with unnecessary sideshows.”The statement read

AK has appealed to the public and all stakeholders to ignore the document and its contents and consider it as a pathetic attempt to create confusion in the national athletics landscape.

The statement further reads, “AK is a body that adheres to the rule of law and laid-out processes for undertaking such exercises as amending our constitution.
We also pride ourselves on an open and seamless communication policy and will, as such, announce beforehand—via all media platforms—any plans to amend our current constitution.”

The federation stated that the public can access its constitution at its headquarters in Riadha House or on its website.
