Director General of the African Union of Broadcasting, AUB, Mr. Grégoire Ndjaka says the AUB is committed to scaling the coverage of climate change and disaster risk reduction on the African continent by building the capacity of more journalists, especially in broadcast media organizations across the continent.
Speaking on the expected outcomes from the forthcoming 2nd AUB Media Summit on Climate Change scheduled to hold from 13 to 14 February, 2025 in Dakar, Senegal, Mr. Ndjaka said the union will continue to empower journalists in Africa to promote climate action considering the adverse effects the climate crisis is having on countries on the continent- destroying livelihoods, fueling communal conflicts over scarce resources, and resulting in the loss of lives.
The Media summit on climate change which is a product of the Media Saving Lives Initiative of the African Union of Broadcasting, AUB and the United Nations Office of Disaster Risk Reduction, UNDRR, he notes is poised to advocate for policies that prioritize climate communication while engaging media executives to dedicate more resources to and create safe spaces for climate and disaster reporting.
More than 200 delegates from several countries in Africa and beyond as well as from the host country- Senegal will attend this summit to define pathways for effective climate and disaster communication.
The event is hosted by the Senegal Ministry of Environment and the Senegal Radio and Television, RTS.
