The African Development Bank (AfDB) is scheduled to elect new president of the bank in May this year to succeed Dr Akinwumi Adesina whose term will expire in September 2025.
The Steering Committee of the Board of Governors on the Election of the President of the African Development Bank has now published official list of five candidates who are eligible for election during the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors slated for May 29, 2025.
Th list include former Senegalese economy minister Amadou Hott, former Vice President for Budget, Performance Review, and Strategic Planning at the World Bank Dr. Maimbo Samuel Munzele and Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) current President Tah Sidi Ould from Mauritania.
Others are former Governor of the Bank of Central African States Tollis Abbas Mahamat from Chad and South African national Tshabalala Bajabulile Swazi, a former senior vice president at the bank who resigned last year.
Dr Adesina who is a Nigerian national is expected to retire in September 1, 2025 after serving two terms of five years each. He was first elected to the position on May 28, 2015 and assumed the position on September 1, 2015.
