Two-time Olympic silver medalist over 10,000m, Sileshi Sihine is the new Ethiopian Athletics Federation President during the election held yesterday in Addis Ababa.
Sihine, the 41-year-old who bagged two silver medals, at the 2004 Athens and the 2008 Beijing China Olympics, was elected yesterday in the 28th General Assembly of the Ethiopian Federation.
He also won 4 silver medals at the World Championships and a bronze in both the 5,000m and 10,000m.
The new president, who will serve for a four-year period, and will be taking over from a former world champion Derartu Tulu who has been at the helm of the federation since 2018.
Coincidentally, Sihine and Tulu hail from the Oromia region, and he is taking over following a sharp public criticism following Ethiopia’s worst-ever outing at the Olympics, managing a single gold and 3 silver medals at the Paris Games this year.
