The short rains season in Kenya is from October to December.

The ongoing rainfall in the highlands east of the Rift Valley, Nairobi area and the Western parts of the country will continue through Christmas.

In an interview, the Director of Meteorological Service Dr. David Gikungu said moderate to heavy and at times very heavy rainfall is expected in Nairobi County.

Dr. Gikungu explained that the current rainfall marks the cessation of the short rains season.

In a post on X, the Kenya Meteorological Department is warning of potential disruptions in some areas owing to the heavy rainfall.

A heavy downpour on Thursday afternoon caused major disruptions to public transport within the city as most motorists and pedestrians were caught up in the deluge.

Rainfall is expected to continue over the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the South-eastern Lowlands, and the Coast, with isolated storms and heavy rainfall likely in some areas.

North-eastern and Northwestern Kenya are likely to be sunny and dry with occasional rains. Strong winds are expected in Turkana and Marsabit counties.
