Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital has launched the construction of a new state-of-the-art 19-bed ward in Muthaiga, aiming to boost the hospital’s capacity. Scheduled for completion in 2025, the ward is projected to cost KES. 220 million, which includes a KES. 40 million personal donation from Dr. Rasik Kantaria, the chairman of Prime Bank.
The new ward is designed to feature state-of-the-art medical facilities within a modern, thoughtful layout that prioritises clinical excellence, a child-friendly environment, and dedicated spaces for parents and guardians. Emphasizing sustainability, the building will adhere to the highest environmental standards, incorporating innovative solutions to minimize energy consumption and emissions during both construction and daily operations.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital CEO, Dr. Robert Nyarango, expressed that this new wing will vastly improve the hospital’s ability to continue its legacy of world-class quality care and will meet the needs of local and international clientele.
“This project reflects our commitment to expanding specialised paediatric care. The generosity of Dr. Kantaria underscores that providing high-quality healthcare requires collective effort. The new wing will enable us to treat more children in an environment that prioritises safety, comfort for patients and carers, and clinical excellence,” said Dr. Nyarango.
On his part, Dr. Rasik Kantaria emphasised the long-term benefits of the project, stating, “Children are the architects of our future. Providing them with access to quality healthcare is not only a necessity but also one of the most impactful investments we can pursue. We take great pride in being part of this initiative alongside an organisation that possesses a longstanding reputation for excellence in the field of paediatric healthcare.”
Dr. Nyarango concluded by stating: “The unwavering support from Dr. Kantaria serves as a powerful reminder of the essential role that investment in healthcare infrastructure plays, particularly for protecting and nurturing our nation’s children.
