The National Police Service (NPS) has launched investigations into a chaotic incident that unfolded on November 28, 2024, during the funeral of the late Erastus Nduati at Bibirioni Boys High School, Limuru.

The fracas broke out as former Limuru Member of Parliament, Peter Mungai Mwathi, addressed mourners.

Unknown individuals began hurling objects and chairs, causing panic and forcing mourners to flee.

In a statement, the NPS clarified that Mwathi was neither arrested nor considered a person of interest in the incident, countering claims that he was detained at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.

“DCI Limuru has commenced investigations into the matter to establish the cause of the fracas and bring to book the perpetrators behind this insensitive act,” the NPS stated.

The chaos resulted in property damage, although only one formal complaint has been lodged so far.

Police officers are actively recording statements from family members of the deceased and other witnesses to uncover the events leading to the disruption.

The NPS has called on members of the public with any information regarding the suspects to report to the nearest police station.

This incident has drawn condemnation from leaders, with calls for swift action to ensure accountability and maintain public order during such solemn occasions.

“We reaffirm our commitment to serve and protect all Kenyans,” the NPS concluded.
