State abandons plans to privatize Kenya Pipeline Company

The government has rescinded its earlier plans to privatize Kenya Pipeline Company.

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi says the firm is still profitable and a strategic national asset, with plans underway to increase its capacity for efficiency.

KPC was among 11 firms that were listed for privatization as part of the government strategy to raise more revenue and increase efficiency in state owned firms.

Nine months after announcing intentions to sell KPC the national government has now changed tune, saying the firm is still profitable a strategic national asset.

The state owned firm will undergo an expansion venture that will see its capacity and efficiency increased.

KPC is incorporating solar in its energy matrix to reduce their power bills that the firm says amounts to Ksh 300 million monthly

The solarization of KPC’s infrastructure is part of its long term sustainability venture.
