Two-time premier league champions Nzoia Sugar FC are promising a swift return to the Premier after being relegated last season.
The team management says they have prepared well and are ready for the battle in the National Super League as they seek to return the club to the yesteryears heights.
“We have prepared well , we are focused on ensuring that we return this team to the level that it belongs . Said Jaspets Mokua , the team manager.
Former information communication and Digital economy Cabinet secretary Eliud Owalo who donated 30 track suits and cash token to the team promised to mobilize resources to aid the ailing team.
“We will do everything humanly possible to support this team. Nzoia has been a fertile hunting ground not only for the big teams in the country but also for the national team . We can’t afford to see it fade away. Said Owalo.
Owalo , a sports enthusiast, has through Eliud Owalo Foundation extended a helping hand to many teams across the country to by purchasing training and playing kits as well as team bus for Gor Mahia a team that he supports.
He challenged the playing unit to put in more effort and rekindle Kanduyi Stadium, the teams homeground fame as one of the hardest hunting grounds for the big teams.
” I can tell you for free , Kanduyi was a no walk in park for the big boys like Gor mahia and AfC leapards. Everytime they came here they knew dropping points was a great possibility” . Said Owalo amid cheers from Nzoia players and technical bench.
The former Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by several for Internationals who used the opportunity to call for more efforts to grow the sport at the grassroot level.
“We need more resources pumped into the game to ensure the sport grows. But we also challenge players to focus on the game and growing their ability while the sun still shines “. Said Peter Dawo the 1989 Mandela cup top scorer and winner with Gor mahia.
For premier league top scorer Benard Onyango challenged premier league teams to focus on grassroot players and untapped potential in school games as their hunting ground for new talent.
“When you look at the just concluded kenya secondary schools sports association championship in kisii you realise how the schools are ready hunting ground s for real talent. Let’s see how we can tap into the vast potential”. Said onyango.
