The Cabinet nominee for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Alice Wahome has pledged to weed out all land cartels should she be appointed to the docket.

During her vetting on Thursday afternoon, Wahome, who was nominated to the same docket before her dismissal by President William Ruto noted that her priorities once appointed will include eliminating the land cartels and digitizing land records.

“I am willing to take the fight to the crime scenes. Institutions have lost land to people working within. I need a lot of support from the police for reinforcement purposes,” she said while appearing before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments chaired by Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula.

“Cartels have reached a point where they don’t respect title deeds and sadly, in numerous cases, officers of the ministry have been part & parcel in procuring those kind of titles,” she added.

She further added that the Government was aware of the fraud activities being carried out by Kenyans.

In a move to prevent Kenyans from losing their properties, the Lands CS nominee said she will ensure that citizens occupying state properties shall be evicted.

“Whether I am the Minister or not, Kenyans should be prepared to move from government owned properties because it is public wealth, it is public property,” she said.

She added, “I am willing to take the fight to the crime scenes. Institutions have lost land to people working within. I need a lot of support from the police for reinforcement purposes.”
