National Volleyball League Defending Champions KCB will be aiming to clinch their second title in a row when they play Kenya Prisons in the Kenya Volleyball Federation League playoffs finals scheduled 7th-9th June at Kasarani Gymnasium.
The bankers, who won their first league title in 15 years are keen on extending their impressive run when they clash with their rivals under the tutelage of Josp Baraza.
Speaking at Kasarani Gymnasium,ahead of the finals KCB Head Coach Japheth Munala asked his charges not to rest on their laurels if they are to retain the title.
“We are training for the final match of this season’s playoffs. We are meeting an experienced team, it is going to be a tough match but we are preparing well to win it. So far, we are working on our services, defence and offense,” noted Munala.
KCB qualified for the finals after an excellent run in the playoffs – they defeated Kenya Army 3-1 in the second leg of the quarters after dispatching them 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, and 25-18) in the first leg.
In the semifinals that were held last weekend, the team triumphed 3-2 over a resilient DCI side in the first leg of the semis.
In the return leg, the bankers showed their might after sweeping the detectives 3-0 (25-20, 20-19 and 25-9) to seal a spot in the finals.
“We are struggling with injuries at the moment, our captain has a swollen knee but we are hopeful she will be back before the match. Our right attacker is injured while Chumba is overcoming her injury. We remain optimistic we will play well and win the championship again,” added Munala.
In the men’s finals Prisons Kenya will take on defending champions GSU in a match that will precede the women’s final serving off at 2pm.
